Although you need many different items for a home brewery setup, the home beer brewing equipment that you need is not that expensive, running under two hundred dollars for a basic brewing kit. The home beer brewing equipment set up does not have to be fancy; it just has to have the basic materials to allow the beer to ferment properly a good recipe and it has to be properly bottled. When you have the right home beer brewing equipment then all you need is to pick the type of beer recipe that they desire and start cooking!

Beer Brewing Equipment

The first item of beer brewing equipment that has to be bought is of course the brewpot, which should have at least a sixteen quart capacity. This is a special pot that must be made of either stainless steel or enamel-coated metal so that the beer does not brew and end up picking up the flavor of the pot. This ensures that the beer will have the pure flavor of the recipe rather than having a strange taste from the pot it cooked in.

The next beer brewing equipment item needed is the primary fermenter which should have a capacity of seven gallons at least. This is an important piece of beer brewing equipment because it is the place the beer starts to ferment in. The lid to the primary fermenter must fit tightly on it so that it locks out all air. These are usually made of plastic and have to be bought specifically for this purpose to work correctly.

The next beer brewing equipment item needed is the airlock and stopper which are used to help the carbon dioxide escape from the primary fermenter during the fermentation process. This is an important piece of beer brewing equipment that must work properly so that the air from the outside does not get in while the carbon dioxide is escaping out of the fermenter.

Other beer brewing equipment needed to create a home brewery setup is a plastic hose, bottling bucket, bottles, bottle pushes and bottle cappers. These items need to be kept extremely clean so that the beer can be safely and cleanly be transferred from the fermenter into the bottles where they will be sealed for consumption. Glass bottles are the best to use for the bottling process and should be a dark color so that the light does not affect the quality of the beer. One other beer brewing equipment item that is needed for the fermenter is a thermometer that can stick to the side of it, such as are used on fish tanks.

You can buy all this beer brewing equipment separately or you can buy it all in a good home brewing kit. Everything you need is in it and it can be used over and over again.

You might think that all homebrew equipment is the same and if you use the same ingredients the brew will turn out to taste the same. This could however not be further from the truth. The right homebrew equipment can make or break the brew that is created, The wrong equipment can cause frustration as the homebrew may not come out exactly like the brewer would like it to. There are many reasons why choosing the right type of homebrew equipment can make the brew that is created a success so the choice of what type of homebrew equipment to purchase should be carefully considered before making a final decision.

Equipment is Important to Controll The Quality Of The Brew

Choosing the right type of homebrew equipment for your homebrewing needs is very important because the right items can control the quality of the brew that is created. In home brewing, keeping the brew that is created at a consistent temperature is very important to the quality of the brew. Having quality homebrew equipment can ensure that person can maintain control of the temperature of the brew throughout the entire process and that the taste of the brew will not be off because of bad equipment. Some homebrew tips for controlling the temperature and the taste of a home brew can be found on many different websites on the internet.

Durability Of The Homebrew Equipment

Some of the less expensive types of homebrew equipment are made from inferior material that does not have the strength to be very effective at controlling temperature of the brew that is created. This can cause the home brewer to create a brew that doesn’t taste as good as they would like or is off colored because it is very difficult to control the brew being made with this type of equipment. Once the person has upgraded to a better set of homebrew equipment, they find that controlling the temperature, taste, and color is much easier to manage.

Many of the more expensive types of homebrew equipment come with a warranty where the items will be replaced if they become damaged within the specified time period. Each of these warranties comes with conditions that could void the warranty if the homebrew equipment is considered to have been misused. This typically includes overheating the homebrew equipment, throwing the items, or denting the items with other equipment. The people that examine the homebrew equipment to determine eligibility for a warranty replacement are trained to look for signs of damage consistent with these actions and will void the warranty if any indications of these actions are found.

You can be assured that when you buy the products we recommend on this site we have tested them and found that they are good enough to recommend, we will not recommend any product that we would not use our self.

You can buy all home brewing equipment separately and use some of the basic tools that can be found around the house but it is often easier and more economical to buy a home brewing kit. You can buy a home brewing kit in retail stores, special home brew shops and on the internet. In this article we will show you the pros and cons of all the choices.

Retail Stores

Many different types of retail stores will have a wide variety of home brewing kits available for purchase. Some of these retail stores have a home brewing supply section in their stores so people can choose their kits along with other items and equipment for their homes. Many stores will have some of the ingredients that will be used with the kit located in the same section to make everything easier for their customers to find. But you should always check the date of the products you buy because you want your ingredients to be as fresh as possible. These types of home brewing kits are generally less expensive than the kits that are found in specialty stores and depending on the store that you shop at, the selection of home brewing kits to choose from can be pretty extensive.

Specialty Home Brew Shops

Many specialty stores that focus on home brewing items will have a large selection of home brewing kits available in their stores. Although many people go to these stores to purchase specialty home brewing ingredients, these stores are also great places to go shopping for kits because you can actually see what the kits would look like when assembled properly and can compare them to the other kits available in the store. The quality of the home brewing kit displayed will often be the higher quality kits, so the price of the kits will be higher than the prices for the kits that are found on the internet. Another downside is that you can’t find home brew shops in every town, and not even in every city.

The Internet

Choosing to shop for a home brewing kit at an internet store will provide you with two different options for purchasing. There are many home brewshops that also have a webshop available and when you know what you want there is no reason not to buy online. You can even purchase the home brewing kit online and then pick up the home brewing kit from the physical store. But you can also order the home brewing kit that you want from the internet website and have the kit shipped to your home. This gives you the opportunity to buy from a specific brand and it will save you time and money because it is delivered at your doorstep and online most home brewing kits are a bit cheaper then in a physical store and in certain times of the year even the shipping for the kit is free.

There are many starting home brewers who find it difficult to figure out what kind of home brewing equipment they should buy. And also for people who would like to buy home brewing equipment as a gift if is sometimes difficult to make the right choice.

There are many factors that you need to think of before you can make a proper choice:

Do you want to save money on equipment that you could not afford otherwise.

Do you want to buy home brewing equipment to use as practice material and to decide if this is a activity you would enjoy in the long run?

As you can see there are several things to keep in mind when purchasing home brewing equipment and keeping these items in mind will make the process much smoother.

What Type Of Home Brewing Equipment Is Needed

The first thing to keep in mind when choosing home brewing equipment is the reason that the equipment is being purchased for. If the equipment is being chosen to provide a practice set for the brewer, then the design and quality of the equipment is not as important as the price of the equipment. On the other hand, if the home brewing equipment is going to be the home brewer’s main equipment for creating home brews on a regular basis, then the durability of the equipment may be the most important factor. Keeping in mind what the equipment will be used for after purchase will help eliminate the possibility that the equipment chosen will not be functional for the use it is intended for. Many times, brewers choose a home brewing kit that is impractical to use because of the brand that is attached to the equipment.

Amount Of Use The Equipment Will Receive

Another thing to keep in mind when choosing home brewing equipment is the amount of use that the equipment will receive. Equipment that will only be used several times per year will have different qualities than equipment that is used on a regular basis. Likewise, the amount of brew that the person will be using the home brewing equipment to create is equally important. Equipment that will be used by a serious home brewer a couple of times a week will need to be much more durable than the equipment used by a home brewer three or four times a year. The length of time that the equipment will be in use is a very important indicator of what type of home brewing equipment should be chosen. Some of the cheaper home brewing equipment may not be able to the strain of heavy use, this can cause that you need to buy home brewing equipment for heavy use very quickly.

When you are considering making your own beer, there is the choice to create a home brewing system from scratch, to buy a beer brewing kit or to buy a automated beer brewing machine. When you buy a beer brewing machine, there are different types to look at, from semi to fully automatic so that the process is purely done by the beer brewing machine from start to finish. There are also different sizes of automated beer brewing machines on the market, the average being a fifteen gallon system which makes your home like a microbrewery. Although the automated beer brewing machine are nice from a convenience standpoint, they also cost over two thousand dollars and that is in most cases more expensive than most people are willing to pay.

Other Options for a beer brewing machine

Instead of buying an automated beer brewing machine, you can also make your own home brewery by buying each individual piece of equipment separately. This way the entire set costs less than two hundred dollars, depending on the size of the equipment that you desire for each piece of the set. This is considerably less expensive than the automated home brewery systems that are on the market.

Brewing at home without an beer brewing machine is a process that takes a lot of time and cleaning in order to make sure all is sterilized for the process to work correctly. Most of the equipment can be placed in the dish washer for sanitizing through the heat drying cycle, although some pieces may be too large for some dish washers. If this is the case, the equipment needs to be sanitized through a bleach solution or an iodized solution so that all bacteria is killed before using the equipment in the beer making process. This is something that is made easier with an beer brewing machine, as some of them come with a cycle that will sanitize the equipment without that scrubbing involved with a set.

But there is an in between solution, because there are beer kits that make the rest of the process easier with a home brewing system since all of the ingredients are contained within the kit for the home brewing process. Once the ingredients are boiled and dissolved then they are placed into the primary fermenter for three to five days where it begins the fermentation process as wort. During the process carbon dioxide is let off and no outside air can be let into the fermenter. After that, the bottling process can begin and the secondary fermentation process can begin.

If you don’t have enough money for a automated beer brewing machine a beer brewing kit is a good and solid solution.

Making home brewed beer is a simple but fun experience once all of the equipment is bought. And even the buying is a simple process when you choose to buy a complete home beer making kit.

Home beer making equipment includes:

- stainless steel brew pot

- primary fermenter

- airlock

- stopper

- plastic hose

- beer bucket

- spout for bottling the beer

- beer bottles

- bottle pushes

- bottle caps

- bottling machine

- stick-on thermometer

- stirring spoons

Home beer making packages with ingredients are a great idea for those just getting started with the process, and the only other thing needed is some sort of fermentable material such as malt extract or demerara sugar and those are included in some of the home beer making packages

Steps of the Process

The first part of home beer making process is to thoroughly sterilize all of the equipment to get rid of any bacteria that might be on it. Each piece of equipment should be washed to remove any dirt or left on matter from the last beer making experience. Once that is removed, the pieces should be sterilized either by placing each item in the dishwasher for the high heat drying cycle or to soak it in a bleach or iodine solution for thirty minutes to kill the bacteria. Once each piece is thoroughly sterilized and dried, then it is time for the next step home beer making process.

The next step in home beer making is to bring two quarts of water to almost a boil. This means that the water should be steaming but not yet boiling in the pot. Once reached, the pot should be removed from the stove and the ingredients from the beer kit should be added to the water and stirred in. (There are directions on the beer kits as to the order the ingredients should be added.) In addition to the ingredients from the beer kit, the fermentable ingredients should be added and stirred until dissolved in the water. Once that is done, the pot should be replaced on the stove and set on the lowest heat for ten to fifteen minutes.

While this is cooking, the primary fermenter should be set up with four gallons of cold water in it. That way, when the ten to fifteen minutes are up, the ingredients from the brew pot can be stirred into the water in the fermenter. This should be stirred for about two minutes so that the yeast can be thoroughly oxygenated. After that, the primary fermentation must last for three to five days, during which time there should be air bubbles rising into the airlock. Once the bubbling stops, or there is at least two minutes that elapse between bubbles, then the primary fermenting process is done and the beer can be bottled.

After the bottling stage two of the home beer making process can begin. When the beer is bottled, you need to wait at least two more weeks before you can enjoy your home made beer.
